SCIENTIFIC PRONOUNCEMENTS\u00a0 IN THE QUR\u2019AN (See also\u00a0<\/span>Qur\u2019an-wrong on semen production<\/a><\/span>)<\/span>
\nThree Divine aspects of the Qur\u2019an are its Scientific Pronouncements \u2013verified by modern research; Prophecies \u2013that have already manifested (see <\/span>Qur\u2019an-prophecies<\/span>)<\/a>\u2013 events of the Doomsday \u2013some of which have been noted by science.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

(Regarding certain verses [on science] of the Qur\u2019an, Maurice Bucaille, the learned author of The <\/i>Bible, The Qur\u2019an and Science <\/i>states:<\/span> \u201cIt was not until much later, at a period not far from our own, that it was possible to translate and interpret them correctly. This implies that a thorough linguistic knowledge is not in itself sufficient to understand these verses from the Qur\u2019an. \n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 The following are some scientific statements in the Qur\u2019an:<\/span><\/p>\n

1.<\/span> Every living thing is made from water<\/i><\/strong>:<\/i> (Qur\u2019an 21:30). It is now known that water is the basic ingredient of all living things.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

2.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0The fetus in the womb is covered in three layers of darkness in our mother’s womb<\/i><\/strong>:<\/i> (Qur\u2019an 39:6).\u00a0These three layers of darkness in which the fetus are enclosed are the decidua <\/i>(a membrane \u201cwhich lies between the wall of the uterus and the developing embryo\u201d), the amnion<\/i> (\u201ca membrane forming a fluid-filled cavity (the amniotic sac) that encloses the embryo\u201d) and the chorion<\/i> (the outermost membrane of the embryo\u201d) (see Ency. Britannica<\/i> for full descriptions).<\/span><\/p>\n

3.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0Embryology \u2013development of the fetus<\/i>:\u00a0<\/strong>(What is to borne in mind is that the Qur\u2019an is not a treatise on any subject; it only highlights certain truths; and does not list every detail).\u00a0<\/span><\/span>There is more than one verse on this topic. Verses dealing with the same topic do not give every detail in every instance. For other verses on this topic see Qur\u2019an 40:67; 75:36-39; 82:7-8.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Qur\u2019an 22:5 reads: \u201cWe created you from dust,\u00a0<\/i>then from a small life-germ, then from a\u00a0clot, then from a lump of flesh, complete in make and incomplete\u2026<\/strong>\u201d
\n<\/span>Qur\u2019an 23:12-14 states: \u201cMan We did create from a quintessence (of clay); then We placed him as (a drop of) sperm in a place of rest, firmly fixed; Then We made the sperm into a clot of congealed blood<\/strong>; Then of that clot (alaqa<\/i>) We made a (foetus) lump (<\/strong>mudgha<\/i>)<\/strong>; then We made out of that lump (mudgha<\/i>)<\/strong> bones and clothed the bones with flesh (<\/strong>lahm<\/i>);<\/strong> then We developed out of it another creature.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span>
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0As emphasized. The sperm (and ovum) are in a state of \u201ccongealed blood\u201d (a \u201cclot\u201d or somewhat jelled substance), then the \u201ccongealed blood\u201d is transformed into another substance (not yet flesh) which looked like something chewed (\u201cmudgha\u201d) which would reflect Qur\u2019an 22:5 that the \u201cclot\u201d is made into a \u201clump of flesh complete in make and incomplete” (i.e.<\/i> in being \u201ccomplete in make and incomplete\u201d it is in a state between \u201cclot\u201d and \u201cflesh\u201d); then bones are developed in this \u201cmudgha,\u201d followed by the bone skeletal clothed with \u201cflesh\u201d (\u201clahm\u201d) which the \u201cmudgha\u201d was transformed into. (The Arabic word \u201clahm\u201d means \u201cflesh\u201d).
\nThat All\u0101h did not mention \u201ccartilage\u201d but mentioned \u201cbone\u201d may be, as stated, All\u0101h does not give every detail on a subject.<\/span>
\n\u00a0\u00a0 In summary, the clot is transformed into a state between <\/i>clot and flesh (mudgha<\/i>), then the nucleus of the bones is formed in this state (between clot and flesh, \u201cmudgha\u201d) then the skeletal is clothed with flesh (\u201clahm<\/i>\u201d) which the clot has been fully transformed into. This Qur\u2019anic teaching of the development of the fetus is in accordance with modern findings. <\/span><\/p>\n

Notably,<\/span> about All\u0101h saying:<\/span> \u201cWe created you from dust<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/i>then from a small life-germ, then from a clot, then from a lump of flesh\u201d \u201cAnd certainly We create man of an extract of clay,<\/strong> Then We make him a small life-germ in a firm resting-place\u201d\u2013(Qur\u2019an 22:5; 23:12-14).\u00a0<\/span>All\u0101h creating man from dust\/clay refers to Him creating the first<\/strong> man\/Adam, and then from Adam we, Adam\u2019s progeny,<\/strong> were\/are created from sperm and clot etc.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

One critic claims that the Qur’an never explicitly claims that the female parent contributes genetic material.\u201d<\/span>
\nAll\u0101h tells us in Qur\u2019an 49:13: \u201cO mankind, surely We have created you from a male AND<\/span> <\/strong>a female.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Since we are created from a male and female then reason alone would dictate that the female also has to contribute something.<\/span><\/span>
\n\u00a0\u00a0 All\u0101h reveals in Qur\u2019an 7:89: \u201c<\/span>He it is Who created you from a single soul, and of the same did He make his mate, that he might find comfort in her.<\/span>\u00a0<\/i>So when he covers her she bears a light burden, <\/strong>then moves about with it. Then when it grows heavy\u2026\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0 Man can emit his seed any place he fancies outside the womb it will never cause any thing to bear a \u201cburden\u201d light or heavy. For it to cause the woman to bear a \u201cburden\u201d she has to contribute some thing.<\/span><\/span>
\n\u00a0\u00a0 All\u0101h reveals in Qur\u2019an 76:2: \u201cVerily We created man from a drop of mingled sperm<\/strong>\u201d [or from \u201csperm mixed (with ovum)\u201d as Muhammad Ali translated]. <\/span><\/span>\u201cMingle\u201d means \u201cto bring or combine together or with something else.\u201d So what is the sperm \u201cmingled\u201d with if not with the woman’s body -“genetic” material?<\/span><\/span>
\n\u00a0\u00a0 All\u0101h tells us that after He gave Mary the news of the birth of Jesus \u201cshe conceived him\u201d\u2013(Qur\u2019an 19:22).\u00a0A<\/span>nd \u201cconceive\u201d means \u201cto become pregnant (with young);\u201d and \u201cconception: is the \u201cact of becoming pregnant,\u201d and the state of being \u201cpregnant\u201d is the state of \u201ccontaining unborn young in the body,\u201d and the state of \u201cpregnancy\u201d requires the union of sperm and ovum. So what did the sperm unite with if not a contribution from the woman?<\/span><\/span>
\n\u00a0\u00a0 Again, All\u0101h says: \u201c<\/span>O people, keep your duty to your Lord, Who created you from a single being and created its mate of the same (kind),<\/span>\u00a0<\/i>and spread from <\/span>THESE TWO<\/span><\/strong> many men and women\u201d \u2013(Qur\u2019an 4:1).<\/span> How then the woman did not contribute genetic material?<\/span>
\n\u00a0\u00a0 Clearly, as we are created from a \u201cmixture\u201d of sperm and ovum reason would tell us that both parents provide genetic material to the child.<\/span> As stated the Qur\u2019an is not a treatise on any subject. That All\u0101h did not actually name the female \u201cgamete\u201d does not mean the female parent did not contribute genetic material.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>
\n\u00a0\u00a0 That \u201cthe female parent contributes genetic material\u201d is encapsulated in the expressions \u201cmingled sperm,\u201d<\/strong> that All\u0101h created man from a \u201cmale and <\/strong>a female,\u201d that when he covers her she \u201cbears a light burden,\u201d <\/strong>and that man is multiplied from \u201cthese two\u201d\u2013<\/strong>man and woman.\u00a0 <\/span>(The Prophet Mohammad taught: \u201cif a man\u2019s discharge<\/strong> preceded that of a woman, then the child resembles the father, and if the woman\u2019s discharge<\/strong><\/span> preceded that of the man, then the child resembles the mother\u201d\u2013Bokhari Vol. 6, #7, Vol. 5, #275).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

4.<\/span>\u00a0Man created from sperm: <\/i><\/strong><\/span><\/span>(Qur\u2019an 75:37-38; 76:2).<\/span><\/span> \u201cW<\/span><\/span>as he (man) not a small life-germ in sperm emitted? Then he was a clot; so He created (him)\u201d \u201cSurely We have created man from sperm mixed<\/i> (with ovum).\u201d (Also 18:37; 35:11; 36:77; 40:67; 80:19).
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span> During the time of the Prophet no one knew about sperm which was discovered a thousand years after the Qur\u2019an. As we are created from a \u201cmixture\u201d of sperm and ovum reason would tell us that both parents provide genetic material to the child.
